Recently TGA approved for New Zealand, the Suoer SW-800 is a specially designed, handheld vision screener for young children and babies from three months old.

It measures both eyes quickly and simultaneously, just like taking a picture, said Designs for Vision’s Gian Victoria. “It’s really fast, which is great as it’s really hard to refract kids. The best way is to use a visual aid, which has been designed into this, so it’s ideal for practices which see a lot of children.”

A total of eight different binocular measurements can be attained within two seconds, including the individual’s refraction, pupil size, distance and gaze deviation, said Suoer. “It provides visual and auditory stimulus to attract the examinee's attention and gaze (and) provides lightning measurements for easy evaluation of the most difficult paediatric patients with limited compliance.”
