New biz offers back-office boost

Dispensing optician Samantha Fleming, aka The Eye Lady, is expanding her Kerikeri-based business to offer optometry practices remote back-office support.

“With over 20 years’ experience in the optometry industry, including roles as receptionist, dispensing optician and practice owner, I understand how practices operate and just how quickly teams can become stretched,” Fleming said. “I can provide flexible remote support for optometry practices, taking care of essential behind-the-scenes tasks so your team can stay focused on patients, sales and the day-to-day flow of the clinic.”

While continuing her work in low-vision support and Irlen diagnostics, Fleming said the new part of her business will offer support with admin, recall and patient follow-up, accounts, marketing and social media.

Social media often gets pushed aside when things are hectic, yet it’s one of the most effective ways for a business to stay connected with the local community and remain front of mind, she said. “Consistent, relevant content helps patients remember your practice, trust your expertise, better understand their eye health and book appointments at the right time. Your content shouldn’t be generic; it needs to reflect real patient conversations, support your services and align with how your practice actually runs.”

Fleming said her goal is to reduce pressure, improve workflow efficiency and ensure important tasks don’t fall through the cracks. “Unlike general virtual assistants, I bring hands-on optometry experience. That means less training, fewer errors and support that fits seamlessly into your existing systems and workflows.”
