Following a severe eye infection in July 2024 and a slow recovery, music legend Sir Elton John now has limited vision in one eye.
“I can’t read. I can’t see my boys playing rugby and soccer and it has been a very stressful time because I’m used to soaking it all up. It’s distressing,” the singer-songwriter told The Times. “You get emotional, but you have to get used to it because I’m lucky to have the life I have. I still have my wonderful family and I can still see something out of here,” he said, pointing to his left eye.
Reflecting on his long and extraordinary career, John (78) said it used to be all about the music for him but having children shifted his perspective. “I always said I wanted to die on stage,” he said. “Now I want my gravestone to read: ‘He was a great dad.’ My career has been wonderful, but the kids are what matters.”
Meanwhile, inspired by John’s musical journey and iconic outfits, Specsavers has partnered with the music legend to design a limited-edition collection. With names like Tiny Dancer, Crocodile Rock (pictured) and Yellow Brick Road, the frames have “all the features we love about the flamboyant superstar, but with ‘just the right amount of Elton’, making them perfect for everyday wear”, Specsavers said.
Glasses have been instrumental in John’s life; he knows the power they hold when it comes to expressing oneself and he now says he wants his latest collection to do the same for everyday wearers around the world. "I want everyone that wears these frames to express their own confident, colourful spirit."
Created in a mix of bold materials, unique shapes and vibrant colours, every pair of Elton John glasses bears the E* mark on the temple tip and hinge trim, symbolising the star’s personal stamp of approval.
