In February, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the Mido Optical Fair in Milan – one of the optical industry’s most anticipated events. After long flights and large amounts of aeroplane cuisine, I made it. As I wandered the bustling halls of this iconic exhibition, it became clear the industry is heading in an exciting new direction, fuelled by cutting-edge designs, innovative technology and a renewed sense of style.
One of my highlights was the unveiling of the new collections from our current brands, including C-Zone, Eschenbach, LaFont and Vanni. The eyewear market is no longer just about function; it's evolving into a platform for personal expression, with fashion-forward designs that seamlessly blend aesthetics and performance.

Among the new launches, I was particularly excited by the bold yet refined styles introduced by some of our leading brands. The collections combined sleek lines, bold colours and materials that pushed the boundaries of design. From high-tech frames crafted using lightweight titanium alloys to eco-conscious options made from sustainable materials, there was something for every taste and lifestyle. These new designs not only cater to those who crave sophistication and style but also embrace inclusivity, with collections that offer a range of fits for all face shapes and sizes.
Sustainability has also become a key focus in recent years. Many brands showcased eco-friendly collections, using materials that are not only durable and lightweight but also reduce environmental impact. It’s inspiring to see how the optical industry is embracing its environmental responsibilities by offering new collections that prove style and sustainability can go hand in hand.
Mido 2025 reaffirmed my belief that the optical industry is on the brink of a massive transformation. From exciting new collections to groundbreaking technological innovations, the future of eyewear is undoubtedly bright. The fair was a reminder of how dynamic and forward-thinking the industry is and I’m excited to see where it will go in the years to come. Coming from little ol’ New Zealand, it’s great to see!
