Back from a four-year hiatus, the Optical Distributors and Manufacturers Association (ODMA) Awards for Excellence were announced before a large audience at the combined O=Mega23 optical fair and 4th World Congress of Optometry conference in Melbourne.

The awards aim to recognise the very best in fashion, innovation and technology within the optical industry, said Amanda Trotman, ODMA CEO. A new category, ‘sustainability initiatives’, was also added this year to honour the great work the industry is now doing in this space, she said.

Eyes Right Optical and Hoya Vision Care both enjoyed a successful evening, with the former taking home the award for best men’s and best women’s optical frame (Face à Face’s Neonn and Sunglass Collective brand Kaleos with model Faye, respectively), while Hoya was awarded best lens design for Miyosmart and best coating for Hi-Vision Meiryo Diamond.

The Oakley Kato 90SE earned Essilor the sports eyewear award, while Safilo Group won the sunglass category with Carrera, Flaglab style 11. The winners in the new sustainability category were Zeiss Group, for its packaging, and Eyes Right Optical (again) for its new sustainable collection, Project Green.
