The Cornea and Contact Lens Society’s (CCLS) popular anterior segment conference is back at Wellington’s Harbourside Function Centre from 22-23 March 2024 (NOTE DATE CHANGE!).

“Our educational content will offer our classic ‘mix tape’ of topics that our attendees want and enjoy,” said CCLS president Adele Jefferies. Inviting optometrists and ophthalmologists from around New Zealand to join the meet, she said it would cover everything from ocular therapeutics, myopia management, dry eye, contact lenses and anterior segment surgery. “And, back by popular demand are our workshops.”

Can’t take my eyes off you

The 2024 optometry keynote speaker is Dr David Kading. Host of the Optometric Insights and Myopia podcasts, his progressive approach to healthcare will resonate with attendees, said Jefferies. "Dr Kading is active in various dry eye, contact lens and contact lens solution studies, and is a consultant and key opinion leader for several eyecare manufacturers. He writes articles and has performed hundreds of lectures nationally and internationally on the topics of keratoconus, irregular corneas, dry eye, anterior segment disease, contact lenses, contact lens solutions and practice management.”

The ophthalmology keynote speaker is Irish cataract, corneal and refractive surgeon Dr William Power. Formerly assistant professor of ophthalmology at Harvard and head of ophthalmology at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital, he’s currently a consultant ophthalmologist with the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital at St. Vincent’s University Hospital and the Blackrock Clinic in Dublin.

CCLS has taken the entire Harbourside (former Mac’s) venue for the two-day conference. “It’s perfect for our conference as we will have dedicated spaces for plenary sessions, workshops and the sponsors area. The central location is also a plus, with a good choice of hotels and restaurants nearby,” said Jefferies. The conference opens with a welcome function on Thursday 21 March, with the popular conference dinner on Friday 22 March.
