Zeiss has launched a free, online vision screening tool offering an initial visual acuity assessment for both spectacle and non-spectacle wearers.
“While other available online vision tests are challenging in application and handling, Zeiss’ Vision Screening is designed to be quick and easy to perform,” said Eric Nehrbass, Zeiss head of online technologies. "In case of doubts about individual visual acuity, this simple online test provides a first indication of impaired vision. We are glad to provide such a helpful tool in times of a pandemic."
The web application allows users to perform a visual acuity screening on themselves by holding their smartphone at arm's length. After calibrating the display of the smartphone, the test runs its course using the standardised optotype Landolt C. Within a few minutes, the user is informed about the results of the vision screening. “If the test indicates that the user's vision has deteriorated or changed, an in-depth examination performed by an optometrist is required,” said Nehrbass.
Zeiss’s Vision Screening is currently available in the US and will be expanded gradually to the rest of the world over the course of 2021.
