Apple has applied for a new head-mounted display system patent for a technology called, Display System with Localised Optical Adjustments, which can adjust local brightness.
This latest patent application, currently with US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), has fuelled rumours that Apple Glass, Apple’s augmented reality (AR) glasses may soon become a reality.
The technology’s adjustable optical component appears to confirm Apple’s smart eyewear will be able to automatically adjust brightness penetrating the lens, making the real world brighter or darker as required, similar to a smartphone’s automatic display brightness. This may be used, when a user is viewing computer-generated content overlaid on top of real-world objects, improving the visibility of the computer-generated part of the picture by reducing the brightness of the real scene, for example, reported tech commentators.
