Glaucoma New Zealand (GNZ) has appointed Pippa Martin as its new general manager.

Martin, an architect by training, is an experienced project manager with more than 16 years’ experience in the not-for-profit sector, including with Auckland City Mission, Cure Kids and Harbour Hospice.

GNZ chair, glaucoma specialist Professor Helen Danesh-Meyer said she was delighted to welcome Martin to the GNZ team. “Her wealth of experience working for charities will be a great asset in her new role and I look forward to working with her to achieve GNZ’s mission to save sight and eliminate blindness from glaucoma in New Zealand. She brings a great deal of expertise and we are truly fortunate to have her as our general manager.”

A strong motivation to make a positive difference in the lives of others led Martin down the path of working for charities. “I like facilitating change whether it be a built environment or a willingness to make a difference for others,” she said. “The most rewarding part of working in a not-for-profit is the quality of people I am privileged to engage with. I’m inspired by their openness to share their stories, volunteer their time, donate their pocket money or donate services and skills to help others.”

Martin said she is looking forward to creating new engagement opportunities to grow GNZ and deliver its vision. She replaces Ana Lee who left GNZ earlier this year to take up a role as Auckland’s senior engagement advisor for the Royal Commission of Inquiry into abuse in care and faith-based institutions.
